Brian Pasternak
Hometown/Beach: Ocean City, NJ
Profession: Math Teacher, Ocean City Beach Patrol
Family: I am a pretty lucky dude, my family and fiancé have supported me since day one of my paddling career and are always at each race cheering me on.
Racing Start: Since I can remember, I have been a man of the sea. I grew up surfing and was always paddling, but it wasn’t until a friend asked if I would enter in a two-man team for the 2010 Dean Randazzo Paddle for a Cause. I loved the race atmosphere and wanted to complete the race solo the following year, after that I was hooked.
Training: I try to get in the water as much as I can. In the Spring, Summer, and Fall, I typically paddle 3x a week and mix in 2 days of running and weight training. During the winter, most of my time is spent in the pool
Favorite Moment: Throughout the past few years I have had a ton of memorable moments, from completing the Molokai to Oahu crossing twice to winning the 22-mile Dean Randazzo Paddle two years in a row, but without a doubt the most memorable moment was winning my first Atlantic City Classic Lifeguard race and having my dad right there at the finish line shaking my hand. Sadly, it would be the last time I saw him.
Equipment: My go to board is my 18’ Catalina model Bark Unlimited but during lifeguard season I paddle on a 12’ Bark Commander.
